Robyn Desposito lives and works in New York City. She has shown widely in the United States and abroad with concentrated shows in New York’s Lower East Side and Brooklyn galleries. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines including Art in America. Apart from exhibiting her artwork, Robyn has explored her curatorial side with the art collectives OpenGround and The Exhibitionists. Most recently she will be featured in Open Studios Press’s 2010 Spring Edition of Studio Visit Magazine.

Statement

My work focuses on capturing the seemingly trivial aspects of our surroundings. I am interested in exploring inherent dichotomies within these images, and playing
upon the emotions that ultimately follow. More broadly examined is the notion of our presence and absence, what we carry with us and what we leave behind. How does this affect our lives and our relationships with others and the world around us? Hints of nostalgia, melancholy and a cynical sobriety give my body of work an often somber tone.

My influences include a variety of art fields and movements such as Graphic Design, Dadaism, German Expressionism and American Romanticism. I use filters, double exposures, text and other mixed media to realize (and question) the reality of the pieces.
